New Fabric Alert! Shirtings, Shirtings and more Shirtings!

We've just added Pint Sized Neutrals by Carrie Quinn for Marcus Fabrics to our Late 19th Century section! If you're like Carrie (and us!), you know you can never have too many creamy neutrals for your reproduction quilts. This collection features beautiful small prints on warm backgrounds, plus a few charming conversationals for a little extra fun.

A Bit of History
In the late 1800s, shirting fabrics evolved to feature larger, bolder motifs, thanks to advancements in textile printing. The Industrial Revolution made intricate patterns more accessible, blending function with style. These durable yet decorative fabrics were staples in both everyday wear and quilts of the time.
Available by the yard and as a Fat Quarter bundle

Margo Introduces the new line!

Discover the Timeless Elegance of Toile!

Step into history with our three exquisite new Toile fabric lines: Summer HouseTrendy Toile, and Toile de Jouy

Toile, a classic printed cotton, became synonymous with intricate scenic designs after its origins in 18th-century Europe. First developed near Dublin in the 1750s by Francis Nixon, this printing technique was perfected in France during the 1760s, notably at the famous Oberkampf factory in Jouy-en-Josas.

Toile designs typically feature three distinct themes: pastoral scenes with people and buildings, monochromatic florals, and graceful birds. While briefly worn as dresses, these beautiful prints found their true place in home furnishings, from curtains to quilts.

Originally printed using large etched plates, early Toiles showcased grand-scale imagery. As technology evolved, the introduction of copper rollers compressed designs to fit the printing format, creating the intricate patterns we cherish today.

Classic Toile prints were made in a single color on a light background. Using finely ground mordants, these prints developed into rich hues of red, violet, pink, black, brown, or even blue and green when treated with indigo.

I’m always looking for Toiles! These new arrivals include a lovely Bird Toile, plus a complex stripe—both historically popular between 1840-1860 as dress goods and in quilts. Margo Introduces the new lines on her YouTube channel Cottonopia.

Fabric Highlight: Bucklebury Chintz by Michelle Yeo!

We're thrilled to share our second shipment of **Bucklebury Chintz** with you! This stunning collection brings together 1825 to 1865 historic motifs in an exquisite palette of raspberry pinks, olive greens, and ocean blues.

The **Exotic Bird Cream** and **Red Serpentine Stripe** designs have been extremely popular, don’t miss your chance to grab these highly sought-after prints!

The Inspiration Behind the Collection
Michelle Yeo’s love for antique quilts shines in Bucklebury Chintz. While visiting France, she discovered a quilt from the early 1800s that sparked her creative vision. She added a modern twist, introducing vibrant colors to complement the original tones of mauve and cream.

A Rich History

Chintz fabrics date back to the 16th century in India, traditionally created with block printing. Bucklebury Chintz captures this heritage with paisleys, calico prints, beautiful vines, and even a design inspired by the moiré technique.
