Lots of Little Pink Stars is a charming, heirloom-style quilt pattern inspired by the original quilt hand-pieced and hand-quilted by Bette Faries in the early 1980s. True to its name, this design features hundreds of small, twinkling stars—soft pinks accented with blues and browns—set on a gentle grid that creates an airy, vintage aesthetic reminiscent of early scrap quilts.
The pattern stays faithful to Bette’s original approach: scrap-friendly, portable, and delightfully meditative. The stars were historically pieced from salvaged fabrics carried in a simple check box, stitched during life’s in-between moments—waiting rooms, flights, and quiet evenings. That legacy of simplicity and charm is preserved in this updated version.
Lots of Little Pink Stars offers:
-
A classic repeating star block that shines in controlled scrappy palettes
-
A soft, antique feel that works beautifully with pinks, shirtings, muted reds, indigo prints, and small-scale historic motifs
-
A layout suitable for confident beginners through experienced piecers
-
A timeless look, ideal as a bed quilt, heirloom gift, or historical reproduction project
The included history page celebrates the remarkable life of Bette Bonine Faries—Montana-born nurse, Army veteran, professor, author, and lifelong quilter. Her story infuses this pattern with meaning and gratitude for the quilters who came before us.
Whether made with true scraps or a curated bundle, this quilt is a beautiful tribute to traditional craftsmanship and the quiet joy of piecing “lots of little stars.”
