Black Octagon - Center Panel
The Black Octagon Chintz Center Panel
Designed and printed by Margo Krager, this dramatic panel is the centerpiece of the Abundance Quilt, and it's rooted in rich textile history.
Inspired by History:
Reproduced from a quilt in the collection of the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL), accession #1997-007-0341. The original quilt—likely made in the United Kingdom between 1820–1840—features the Black Octagon appliquéd onto a stunning hexagon quilt measuring 98" x 93".
The only published photo of the original appears in Quilt Studies, Issue 11 (2010), in Carolyn Ducey’s article: From the United Kingdom to the United States: The Evolution of Chintz Appliqué Quilts.

Design Notes from Margo:
In pursuit of an early 19th-century aesthetic, I’ve moved away from the modern "light, medium, dark" formula. Instead, I focus on layers of “lights and mediums,” balanced scales, and a generous use of neutrals. My favorite colors to pair with the Black Octagon are bronze, mushroom, and chestnut—but the panel offers a rich range of colors to spark your creativity.
