Bridgeport by Jo Morton   Giuseppe Garibaldi (1807-1882)  was an Italian freedom fighter. He helped to unite Italian states into the Kingdom of Italy, 1861. He and his soldiers worn red shirts. This transferred into women's fashion during the 1860s. Often young women wore short red wool jackets with black military trim. Others had cotton blouses/shirtwaists from red/black prints.
