Core Collection Bundle (1900-1930)

1900 - 1930 Core Collection

The last decade of the 19th Century was a time of immense change for the textile business in America. The national economic crisis of 1893 had a profound effect on the textile mills; many went bankrupt. Others tried various ways to cut the cost of production. The patterns of the prints became simpler, requiring less design costs. The fabrics were printed in a limited color range. Frequently the designs would be a white or black figure on a colored ground. The addition of a third color greatly increased production costs. Finally, the mills used less costly greige goods (the ground fabric for printing) with a decreased thread count. Often these goods were heavily sized with a mixture of lime and China clay.

In 1897 German chemists produced the first synthetic indigo dye, "Indigo Pure". By 1913 synthetic indigo dyes were readily available, higher in quality, and cheaper in price and in general use.

Featured fabrics in this collection include: Prints from the Onyx Line, Double Pinks, Indigo dyed (note back of fabric) and Burgundy.  Solids: Kona Tan, Navy and Garnet.

This FQ Bundle includes 25 Fat Quarters and will be curated by Margo Krager, Owner of Reproduction Fabrics and Textile historian from our wide selection of Early 20th Century reproduction fabrics. Each bundle will include multiple essays written by Margo about the time period and several Featured FQ's of the time period.

FQs in this bundle could vary based on availability.
