THE GOOCH COVERLET
By Judy Newman & Margaret Mew
Devonstone Collection
DV7820

Inspired by one of the most extraordinary surviving British patchwork coverlets of the early nineteenth century.  Created with permission from The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, this collection recreates the rich Georgian-era printed cottons found in the original Gooch Coverlet, made between 1800–1820 by the Gooch sisters of Suffolk, England. The original textile is celebrated for its remarkable craftsmanship, intricate inlaid patchwork construction, and elegant frame-style layout filled with floral motifs, hexagon rosettes, and beautifully balanced borders.

Judy and Margaret have long been admired for their passion for antique quilts and historic textiles, and this collection beautifully revives the refined colors and delicate prints that defined fashionable British dress and furnishing fabrics of the Georgian period.
