FQ Bundle - 6 Two Blue Prints

Actual designs in each bundle may vary

Two Blues was a popular 18th-century printing style that relied on a slightly more complex design while still using relatively simple technology. Printers achieved the look by applying two different shades of blue—often a deeper indigo and a softer, lighter blue—within the same motif.

Using carved wood blocks, the darker blue was typically printed first to establish the outline or primary form. A second block added the lighter blue for fill, shading, or secondary details. Though the technique required careful registration to align the blocks, the overall process remained straightforward compared to multi-color chintz printing.

The result was a design with greater visual depth and movement, achieved through tonal contrast rather than multiple colors. Two Blues fabrics demonstrate how 18th-century printers could create richness and complexity using limited palettes and practical, efficient methods.
