Memorial Day Reflections, Textile History & New Arrivals in the Shop

Memorial Day — Remembering & Honoring

As we pause this Memorial Day weekend to remember and honor those who served and sacrificed, we are also reminded how textiles and quilts have long been connected to stories of remembrance, comfort, and community.

During the Civil War era and beyond, quilts were often stitched not only for the home, but for soldiers, hospitals, and relief efforts. Women’s aid societies and organizations such as the U.S. Sanitary Commission organized the making and collection of quilts, blankets, clothing, and bandages for troops. Fabrics that we now recognize as classic shirtings, indigos, plaids, and calicos were once practical materials that found their way into quilts carrying warmth, care, and connection during uncertain times.

This is my Soldier's quilt made from fabrics from my A Soldier's Quilt line reproduced from samples from my 1863-1868 sample book.

As textile lovers and makers, we continue that tradition every time we cut, piece, stitch, and share our work with family, friends, and our communities.

We’re also excited to share TWO beautiful new fabric lines now available in the shop!

NEW — Swatch Book by the Iowa Quilt Museum for Windham Fabrics
Inspired by a 100-year-old manufacturer’s swatch book discovered in the Iowa Quilt Museum collection, this line celebrates crisp blue-and-white shirtings, classic geometrics, dots, and stripes. Perfect for reproduction, traditional, modern, and utility-style quilts alike. We now have yardage, bundles, and 3 FREE patterns available!

Navy Churn Dash - Repeat is 16.8" by 42".

NEW — Indian Block Prints: Cottage by Fableism Supply Co.
Our first collection of artisan-made Indian block prints! Traditional motifs have been reimagined in a soft, updated cottage-inspired palette with beautiful cream backgrounds and a lovely hand-printed feel. Think grandmacore meets cottagecore — ideal for quilts, home décor, apparel, and creative sewing projects. These prints are hand printed to create a unique custom feel for each print.

We saw this quilt at a show this year using these fabrics.  I love how it highlighted the fabrics.

Thank you, as always, for allowing us to share our love of textile history, fabrics, and quilting with you. We wish you a meaningful Memorial Day weekend filled with creativity, remembrance, and perhaps a little time in the sewing room.

Warmly,
Margo & the ReproductionFabrics.com Team
