Hello Everyone -
Spring is finally here, and we are beginning to see those first tulips and early blooms pushing their way up after a long winter. There’s something about this season that feels like a fresh start—new colors, new ideas, and renewed inspiration for the projects we’ve been dreaming about all winter. We hope you’re feeling that same creative spark as you plan your spring sewing and quilting.

I can't wait to get our planters out again to welcome everyone to our shop in Northfield MN. We love visitors!
Just in time for those new projects, we’re excited to introduce two beautiful new fabric lines from Morris & Co., now in the shop to complement our first offering, Bedford Park. These collections draw directly from the extraordinary Morris archive—a true treasure trove of design history that includes original wooden printing blocks, textile samples, wallpaper records, and historic log books. It’s from this rich source that these timeless patterns continue to be reimagined for today’s makers.
To fully appreciate these fabrics, it helps to step back into the world of William Morris (1834–1896), one of the most influential designers of the 19th century. Born into a wealthy family, Morris grew up surrounded by books and imagination. He was captivated by medieval tales of knights and romance, and this fascination carried into his studies at Oxford, where he immersed himself in literature and historic manuscripts.

Morris drew deeply from the past—medieval England and France, Italian textiles, and later the intricate patterns of Persia and Turkey—but he was never simply copying. He transformed these influences into something distinctly his own. As part of the Pre-Raphaelite circle, he rejected the industrial excess and harsh aesthetics of his time, instead promoting craftsmanship, natural beauty, and thoughtful design. He believed that everyday surroundings should be both useful and beautiful.
His work in textiles and wallpaper is especially beloved for its sense of movement and life. Vines twist, leaves unfurl, and florals seem to grow organically across the surface—yet all carefully controlled within a two-dimensional design. Morris was also deeply committed to natural dye processes, favoring indigo, madder, weld, and other traditional sources over the new synthetic dyes of the Industrial Age. This dedication gives his work a depth and richness that still resonates today.
Over time, Morris became one of the defining voices of the Arts and Crafts Movement, shaping not just interiors but the broader philosophy of design. His patterns have endured not because they were fleetingly fashionable, but because they are timeless—grounded in history, nature, and artistry.
That legacy continues in our two newest collections.
Lodden
The Lodden collection is a stunning celebration of Morris design, filled with birds, blooms, and winding branches rendered in rich teals and glowing golds. Familiar favorites like Strawberry Thief, Pimpernel, and Lodden appear here in beautifully softened color washes that highlight their intricate details while giving them a fresh, contemporary feel. This collection also spans beyond Morris himself, incorporating designs from later 19th-century artists such as C.F.A. Voysey, alongside earlier works like Daisy. The result is a layered and cohesive collection that feels both historic and newly alive.
The Trellis Palette
The Trellis Palette offers something equally special, focusing on color as its guiding theme. Inspired by Morris & Co.’s historic wallpaper catalog and coordinated with their paint ranges, this collection explores 160 years of color heritage. Each shade tells a story. From “Inky Fingers,” a deep tone rooted in Morris’s own experiments with indigo discharge printing at Merton Abbey, to “Kelmscott Water,” a soft green-blue drawn from the background of the Lily design, these fabrics are steeped in history. The palette includes twelve carefully curated hues, each one designed to work beautifully on its own or in combination.
Together, these two collections bring Morris’s world into your hands—whether you’re planning a quilt, a sewing project, or simply adding something special to your fabric collection. They pair beautifully with our Bedford Park line and open up so many possibilities for mixing, matching, and creating.
We invite you to explore Lodden and The Trellis Palette in our 1865-1900 section of the website and let them inspire your next project. Spring is the perfect time to begin something new, and these fabrics carry with them over a century of artistry, history, and enduring beauty.
