Margo’s Favorite from Julie’s Collection – A Bold Antique Quilt Top!
Dear Quilting Friends,
We’re excited to share one of the most striking pieces from the antique quilt collection of Julie Idzorek—a vibrant Nine-Patch quilt top dating from 1895 to 1925 that has completely captivated Margo!
This quilt top is a riot of color and character, featuring hundreds of tiny nine-patch blocks set against a deep Jet Black print, a fabric innovation that entered the market around 1893. But what truly sets this piece apart is its fearless use of what collectors call “uglies”—those wild, clashing, oddball scraps—plus early synthetic-dye brights that practically glow! Yarn Dyes, Polka Dots, Lancaster Blue and the setting fabric steals the day - uglies or neon. A great example of the fabrics of the era.
Size: 72" x 90"
Condition: Quilt top only
Fabric era: 1895–1925 — featuring Jet Black, early neons, and eccentric scraps
From the collection of: Julie Idzorek, award-winning quilter and passionate textile collector
Julie was a lifelong quilter who made over 100 quilts in her lifetime and lovingly collected more than 70 antique quilts. She had a deep appreciation for fabric history, color, and craftsmanship. We are honored to be working with her husband, Ed, to help find new homes for these treasured quilts—pieces that reflect her passion and eye for the extraordinary.
Margo was so impressed by this top that she recorded a short video sharing the story behind it and her favorite fabrics hidden within. Her enthusiasm is contagious—you can watch the video now on our YouTube channel!
